We’re always proud of our handsome Boris, but lately we’re particularly proud. Boris is one of our daycare superstars — a handsome English Cream who’s always friendly to pups and people alike. Almost 3 years old, Boris has been working diligently on training…Even when he’s incredibly excited for daycare, he puts behavior first and will “sit” and “stay” until we give the go-ahead. So it didn’t surprise us when mom Marie told us he passed his therapy dog certification. We couldn’t think of a better pup to serve others! Since he’s such a handsome boy, we’ve included a handful of pics from his therapy dog photoshoot. (Side note: our love of Boris is rivaled only by our love for his brother Cletus, the adorable terrier mix in the tennis court photo. Click on any pic for a full slideshow.)

Hey Everyone!

My name is Chloe and I am a 3 year old Black Lab. I’m an old regular here, I have been coming here since 2010!

I was born in New Hampshire, that’s where my Mom fell in love with a Black Lab named Cassie. They wanted one just like her they said so that’s how they got me, Cassie is my dog mom! When I’m at home I’m just as playful as I am here, I love to wrestle and play tag!

You may have seen me recently in the Yearbook Poll where I was voted Class Clown and I sure love living up to that title, but more on that later! Most of the time I come I’m here for Daycare, that is my favorite thing about Good Dog! I love pulling pranks on all the staff members in there, it makes the other dogs laugh! Most of the time I just do little things like steal their walkies, tip over the water cooler, or grab the roll of paper towels and RUN!! See all these little jokes I pull keep the Daycare workers on their toes and it always makes them laugh. You see, Labs instinctively enjoy holding objects, even hands or arms in their mouths, which they can very gentle (a Labrador can carry an egg in its mouth without breaking it), so that is my excuse for always grabbing things from the staff! Did you also know that female Labs are known to be more independent than males which is describes me to a T, independent!!

I do also enjoy a nice vacation once and awhile in the luxury hotel suites here! I get all set up with lots of Daycare during the day to wipe me out then I come back to my room with some nice cozy blankets and settle down for the night. Most of the time my Mom also likes to get me a bath and brush before I come home to! The groomers here are awesome. They also embrace my wild side and after a little playing around I will stay still for them to get that nice brush out after my wash that feels so good! My Mom also signed us up for a couple lessons with Adam Moos the trainer here where he taught me some basic manners. My Mom does a great job with me, she always has me sit before we come in the door and before I can go back and play.

When I’m not having a Good Dog vacation I love vacationing up in Michigan and playing in the lakes. I am definitely a lake dog! Well that’s all I have for now, I’m currently here on one of my vacations for a few days. I think I see Mary, time to go steal her walkie!!

Hi there! My name is Bailey Meglin. I’m a male Goldendoodle, and I’m 4 years old. I’ve been coming to Good Dog daycare since 2006.  I love it here. I’m actually quite familiar with Good Dog. Not only do I get to play in the day care, I also stay in the hotel, AND I’m groomed here by Jammie.

I’m told that I’m a VERY bust guy!  When I’m not at Good Dog, I’m training to become a Therapy Dog.  There’s a special program where prisoners train dogs and their owners so that we can become various service dogs!

When I’m finished with my training, I’ll be able to go to the hospital with my mom to visit patients and brighten up their stay! I can’t wait!

When I’m at daycare, I’m a very sweet and affectionate guy!  I’m most famous for my kangaroo bouncing trick! I’ve been bouncing since I was a puppy and can get completely airborne! I really resemble a kangaroo when I jump, and I do this jumping trick whenever I’m excited! Everyone loves it.

In daycare, you’ll typically see me play with the big dogs since I’m a bigger dog. My best friends are Samantha, Juice and Clyde. They like my jumping tricks too. Thanks for reading my post. Come in and see my jumping tricks. If you’re ever in the hospital, I’ll come cheer you up too!

Just as humans can develop bad habits, so can our dogs. And for many dog parents, they just don’t know how to go about  breaking the bad habit on their own. So, for those of you who have been inquiring about what dog training really is, how it’s done and what can be done to make your pup the joy you’ve always known he/she can become, perhaps this post will help answer some of those questions you may have.

We have a great dog trainer here at Good Dog Hotel. His name is Adam. Adam is unique in that he is very soft handed, similar to our ‘dog whisperer’. He doesn’t raise his voice and is not an overly physical trainer. Some trainers can be almost mean but Adam uses positive reinforcement and gains trust with every dog he works with.

Adam doesn’t stop there though. He spends ALOT of time with the owner. Training is something that doesn’t just stop at the end of the session, which is why it is as important to work with the dog’s parents to teach them what to do, what not to do, how to use positive reinforcement, and learn how to pick out then break bad habits.

Adam began his training career with the Hamilton County 4-H program where he trained competitively in obedience. He co-founded the county’s agility project and was awarded multiple blue ribbons and championships at a county and state levels in both obedience and agility trials. He went on to continue his professional education in training at the Tom Rose School for Professional Dog Trainers in High Ridge, Missouri. While there, he extended his knowledge into household pet and police dog training techniques specializing in obedience, agility, tracking, protection and scent detection.

Most recently, Adam has been working with the Good Dog Hotel & Spa to build and develop the Good Dog Training Academy. From private sessions to eight-week courses, Adam works one-on-one with every dog that comes in. We even offer a boarding school to train if the family is going away.
